Frequently asked questions
What Basket Boost does, what it never touches, and how it keeps you in control.
Getting started
What does Basket Boost do?
Basket Boost reads which products were bought together in your own orders and finds genuine affinities using association-rule mining (support, confidence and lift). You get a transparent, ranked list of pairs, per-product 'complete the set' recommendations, and ready-to-price bundle ideas — and a theme block that shows each product's recommended complements on its product page.
How do I set it up?
Install from the Shopify App Store and open the app, then press 'Mine my orders' — Basket Boost analyses your order history and computes the affinities. To show recommendations on your storefront, add the 'Frequently bought together' app block to your product template in the theme editor (one time). There are no scripts to paste.
How many orders do I need?
The more multi-item orders you have, the stronger the signal. Basket Boost works with whatever history you have and clearly labels the number of orders analysed and associations found; with very few multi-item orders it will simply find fewer pairs.
How it works
Are the recommendations guaranteed to lift sales?
No. The affinities are MEASURED from your real orders (support, confidence, lift are real aggregates). A recommendation is a PREDICTION that the affinity will repeat for new shoppers — it is not a guarantee of increased average order value, conversion, or revenue. Results depend on your catalog, traffic and merchandising.
Does Basket Boost use AI?
No. The mining is deterministic, rule-based association analysis — not an AI/LLM. The same orders always produce the same, auditable result, and every pair shows its support, confidence and lift so you can see exactly why it was recommended.
Does it read my customers' data?
No. Basket Boost operates at Protected Customer Data Level 1: it reads order LINE ITEMS (product ids and quantities) only. It never reads names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, or payment details, and does not request the read_customers scope. The baskets handed to the mining engine are product-id arrays that cannot identify a customer.
Will it change my products?
No. Basket Boost writes only its own product metafield (basketboost.fbt) holding each product's recommendations, which the theme block reads. It never edits your product content, price, or inventory.
Displaying recommendations
How do recommendations show on my storefront?
Basket Boost publishes each product's mined complements to the basketboost.fbt metafield and ships a 'Frequently bought together' theme app block. Add it once to your product template in the theme editor; it then appears on every product that has recommendations.
Does it work on a new or password-protected store?
Yes for mining and the dashboard — Basket Boost reads your orders and products through the Admin API even when the storefront is private. The storefront block becomes visible to shoppers once your store is public and the block is added to your theme.
Billing & plans
What's free and what's paid?
Mining your orders, seeing ranked affinities and recommendations, and the storefront block are available on the Free plan. The paid plans (Pro and Scale) raise usage limits and add higher-volume workflows for larger catalogs.
Can I upgrade, downgrade or cancel?
Yes — you can change or cancel your plan anytime from the Plan screen in the app. Billing is handled by Shopify and appears on your regular Shopify invoice. Your mined data is kept when you downgrade.
Will I be charged while testing on a development store?
No. Shopify does not bill development stores, so you can install and try Basket Boost on a dev store at no cost.
Data & privacy
What data does Basket Boost store?
Only mined statistics (pairs, recommendations, counts), a product-title mirror, your shop domain, app settings, and billing status — plus encrypted Shopify access tokens in the app's session storage. It stores no customer-identifiable data.
Is Basket Boost GDPR-compliant?
Yes. It honours Shopify's mandatory GDPR compliance webhooks. Because it holds no customer personal data, customer data-request and redaction webhooks have nothing to return or erase; a shop-redaction request deletes all of your shop's data.
What happens when I uninstall?
Your access token is removed and the shop is marked inactive on uninstall; on Shopify's shop-redaction webhook all of your shop's rows are deleted. Uninstalling does not change your products; any basketboost.fbt metafields simply stop being updated.
